♥ Louisville Skyline at Night ♥

A few nights ago, my friend and I drove across the Ohio River to Indiana. Our mission was to take photos of the Louisville skyline lit up at night. I love the view of Louisville that you get from just across the bridge. On this particular night was the annual Light Up Louisville festival. There was a very small fireworks show, which you can see a bit of in the second photo.

♥ Blues-n-Barbecue Festival ♥

I'm not a huge fan of Blues music (I don't dislike it, I just don't usually go out of my way to listen to it), but I am a fan of being outside, people watching...and good, smoky barbecue! Blues-n-Barbecue has been going on since Friday, and I would imagine that the first two days were a bit more crowded than today, the last day. It is set up on the lawn of the historical Water Tower on River Road.

There was plenty of shady seating to relax and listen to some music and enjoy some brisket, sausage, or pulled pork. I chose to munch on a brisket sandwich with some fries and (spicy!!) green beans. Yum! I caught the last half of the performance by the Hellfish, and the first half of The Straycat Band. People were up dancing and having a great time despite the high temperatures. I didn't stay more than a couple hours, but it was nice to get out and enjoy the day!

♥ River Flooding ♥

Ahhh, Springtime. Birds chirping, flowers blooming...and rain! Living on a major river always poses the threat of having some flooding as the snow melts and the Spring rains begin. I went to Waterfront Park to check out the extent of the damage.

♥ New Year's Eve Dinner Cruise: Spirit of Jefferson ♥

For New Year's Eve, I went on a dinner cruise on the historic Spirit of Jefferson riverboat. I was accompanied by my dad and his friend, Peggy, and we had a really nice time! The cruise lasted about three hours, and it was a pleasant 70 degrees...almost unheard of in Louisville in January! I was glad, though, because I was getting over a bad cold and appreciated being able to go outside to enjoy the cruise without freezing!

There was dinner, champagne, and dancing. The crowd was more low-key than I expected (I did make a new friend of a gay hairstylist and his man-friend! ;-), but I completely enjoyed being on the water and having the wind blowing in my hair! I didn't even mind that it started sprinkling a bit towards the end.

An awesome view of the Louisville skyline from the boat!

♥ Churchill Downs ♥

Churchill Downs and the events that occur there are easily the epitome of Louisville living. I love the excitement that is invoked with each trumpet call and the cheering and yelling from the crowd as the horses round the bend at the end of a race! When David and Shannon came through town for about 24 hours, we decided to treat them to a visit to the historic landmark. We arrived mid-afternoon and got in line to purchase our general admission tickets. The sweet woman who was working the ticket booth discreetly slid us four free tickets to the 3rd Floor clubhouse level! We went up to sit in the heated boxes with the big wigs while we watched a few races and enjoyed a beverage. It was a great afternoon!
